It is becoming more popular to live in gated communities where 24 hour security services are provided. Some offer officer patrols around the neighbor and others have around the clock security systems. Luckily there are many options when it comes to securing neighborhoods and gated communities. Security companies are coming out with more advanced systems every year that are easy to install and eliminate the need for security officers. This is cutting into the job opportunities for security guards but is creating a larger avenue of security technical workers and installers. Whether you are working for a security company installing systems or doing security watchmen shift work, there is formal training that needs to be completed. Job training is much like any other security position, requiring certification and on the job training. Some positions do require you to be armed and trained with a weapon. This certification doesn't require POST training, however an extensive background check will be periodically conducted and a series of weapon training courses will need to be completed.

Gated communities are being sought after, especially in the urbanized areas of America. Job outlooks in regard to the construction and security policies of these communities are very high. Old neighborhoods are reinventing and bringing in new security policies and security management teams. These teams are part of a larger security company that will manage the security systems in the neighborhood and maintain a high level of security. Not all neighborhoods are relying completely on the technical security systems. Many communities have 24 hour security guard surveillance. The communities often times have a guard stationed at the gate as well as officers patrolling the community.

A position like this caters to those who like hands on work and don’t have a formal education. The training is a series of classes and certification which can be achieved relatively easy. You will be in outdoor conditions most of the time and a lot of the work will be during evening hours. There are always ways to further your career and guarding communities are no different. Leadership positions are available by promotions and you can grow in any job. There are many ways to polish your skills for a future career in this area; start by being aware of your surroundings and pay attention to the suspicious. It’s likely you’ll be part of a team and will have to take on a certain amount of responsibility for the security team. Become part of a team and learn how to work with a group after a single goal. Team work is crucial to most any job and can be the determinate between a happy successful job and a job atmosphere that is less than pleasant. Become aware of the requirements for the job tasks and assignment you’ll be handling. Any preparation is good preparation. Look into job shadowing and seek out local opportunities for your chosen profession. Many positions offer benefits and perks so make sure to find out about the companies policies on those types of things.

It’s very important with a job like this to be willing to work with government officials and authorities. In many cases you’ll need to make statements or testify in court. It’s crucial to be completely honest and keep a professional unattached manner when dealing with these situations. As in any job, integrity and satisfaction in yourself and your work are very important and should be maintained through out your career.

Technology is becoming a larger part of the security world. As advancements are made, more computer security systems and security protection devices will become a part of the job description. It would be a good idea to learn about these systems and there capabilities before entering the field. Security training will be mandatory and any knowledge gained prior to training will do nothing but help you in completing the courses.

If you enjoy police style work and have a quizzical nature, a security job in a gated community is a very good fit. You’ll be protecting neighborhoods of families and potentially taking criminals off the streets. It’s an easy career to get into and the work is satisfying. Chances are most of your experiences will not be life threatening but still could prepare you for a police career. You’ll have many opportunities to do well and help a neighborhood relax and feel safe in their environment. Protecting the innocent and their belongings is a very worthy and noble line of work. What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
