There are several title used to describe a security officer such as security agents, guards, watchmen, private police and bodyguards. Although employers vary, the responsibilities of security officers are universal. Policies and procedures will differ depending upon the assignment of the officer. But generally, a security officer must provide the actual documentation of actions to be taken. The security officer will have to spend long stretches of time without much activity. Academic: A security officer need not have a specific educational qualification and requirement. Instead, the person is required to have a clean criminal history and should be over eighteen years of age. He or she should pass the adequate training courses for security officers. Most states and employers demand security officers hive private security license. All candidates are required to have a high school diploma to get a job in is field. Some employers might require the security officers to have a valid license to drive a security vehicle.
Skill sets: A security officer should respond immediately to any kind of emergency or an incident. He or she should be healthy both physically and mentally. Most employers demand certain physical requirements from the security officers. The employers expect candidates to arrive on time, maintain a professional appearance and other disciplinary measures. They should be able to handle working under pressure and stay calm during emergency situations.
Training: There are several law enforcement training programs for individuals who are interested in becoming security officers. Although this cannot match with the average training a police officer receives, it will give candidates knowledge regarding the training required for the job of a security officer.
Prior experience: To be a security officer, experience is not mandatory though having adequate training and a valid license will help with getting a job of this type.
