Security Jobs

The vast range of security jobs indicates that fundamental safety is of the utmost importance. Companies, large or small, employ security officers, engineers, and directors. Property, money, jewelry, peoples lives, even company and personal information are vulnerable to attacks. The seriousness of this endeavor shows that the threats are real and that many are waiting for a slight window of opportunity to strike. From security guards, law enforcers, homeland security, personal bodyguards, to information security, the security industry is always ready to help out.

Here are the top security jobs in the market today:

1. Airport screening manager: is stationed at screening checkpoints to screen individuals at the airport. The screen managers are evaluated and reviewed for their performance. These screening methods are paramount to the safety of the public and prevent anyone from transporting deadly objects into the airplane. The SM also maintains constant communication with his immediate supervisors concerning the safety issues and vulnerabilities in the screening area. If the screen manager finds something suspicious, he or she should notify the supervisor immediately.

2. Federal Security Director: is responsible for giving directions for day to day operations in the airport security forces. His main concern is national security. The Federal Security director coordinates with the Transportation Security Administration for all security activities. The FSD is also responsible for planning, management and execution of the orders by the TSA. The federal security director trains employees in security awareness programs, assessing security risks, protecting data and communication systems, managing critical situations and implementing regulations according to the Federal Security Crisis Management Response Plan.

3. Computer information security – the sensitive information in computers are vulnerable to hackers, malware and viruses. An information security specialist designs firewalls and other important mechanisms to only allow authorized persons to access the computer. He also maintains a record of passwords of the employees and monitors all users in the computer networks. The computer specialist also back ups important files and saves it in a secured database.

4. Security Analyst – the responsibilities of the security analyst is to point out security policies that are no longer effective and design security measures from identification cards to biometric scan system. Security analysts also assess the risks linked to the day to day operations. If the security analyst works on a public sector, he would then coordinate with the law enforcers. The most important tasks of the security analyst would be detecting and preventing terrorism and works with the intelligence network such as CIA and the military. He would then generate a report for the leaders and recommend certain actions to protect the public from harm.

5. Security guards – are the most common security jobs of all. They can be found everywhere including malls, private homes, buildings, government establishments, museum, schools, firms, and banks. The guards patrol the areas, inspect rooms and perform security checks and monitors CCTVs. Security duties also varies; they may be a witness to the court, call emergency response teams, cooperate with the authorities and most of all protect the lives and properties of their clients. Depending on the organization they work for, the responsibilities greatly varies. They also protect cargo in the airport and seaport, diners, club goers, recreation parks and hotel guests.

Security jobs are some of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Folks doing this work risk themselves protecting their clients’ possessions and lives. Some work in armored cars for money transport, some work in gaming and casinos. Some represent the first line of defense while some are keeping the computer files secured and planning contingency measures for better security strategies.

While some security jobs require only a high school diploma, some however requires a bachelor’s degree in administration or computer science. Prior experience and bilingual security professionals have the best advantages. Some security officers require training in a security academy. The annual median income of security jobs range from $40,000 to $70,000 dollars with benefits and bonuses.
