If you are looking for security jobs, security guard jobs, or security office jobs there are some things that you should know. It takes a special type of person to fill any of these jobs. Security is an important part of nearly every business. Whether you are protecting the employees, the assets within the building or the people that are working there, your job will be very important to many people.

There are certain myths about security jobs that may make people shy away from them. For example, it has been said that you have to carry a gun and be prepared to use it when you fill one of these positions. This may be true for some positions in the security field but it is certainly not true for all of them. If you are guarding very valuable pieces of jewelry or top secret information for the government you may be asked to carry a weapon. If you work in a bank and are guarding a vault you may be asked to carry a weapon.

Most security job positions require that you are alert to the surroundings at the locations and that you are willing to call in the police if necessary. You do not have to shoot anyone, and you probably will not have a loaded weapon with you. Your job will be to secure the premises and to look for things that are out of the ordinary. A great example of this type of security job is one of a store security guard. This person looks for shop lifters and for people that may be damaging the premises, not to shoot someone!

Another myth about security jobs, security guard jobs, and security office jobs is that the person that fills the position must be extremely physically fit. Many people envision a security guard as a muscular male that looks like they can lift a vehicle with little effort. This is simply not true. In some security positions, looking like the average person is actually preferred. The employer will want you to fit into the scene and not look like a guard.

Using the example of a security guard at a department store is also fitting in this case. If you are dressed in a security guard uniform and you are walking around the department store, yes you will be a deterrent to anyone that is considering shoplifting but they will simply wait until you move along and will steal the item anyway. If you fit into the scene they will not be threatened by you and could steal the item in front of you.

When you apply for security jobs, security guard jobs, and security office jobs you will likely be asked about your experience in the field. If you do not have any experience yet you may want to begin with an entry level position. Do not let the myths scare you out of applying. If you enjoy playing detective and protecting those around you then you will likely be very successful in the security field. Security officers are trusted people that the public looks to for help. It is an accomplishment to hold a position like this so if you are interested, go for it!

Another myth about security jobs that is typically started by the criminals themselves is that a person that holds one of these titles is someone that loves to bully people. This is absolutely not true. The person that fills a security job is probably the most kind hearted of them all. This is because they are willing to spend their work day protecting others. They know the value of law and order and are willing to do their part to uphold it.

Security jobs, security guard jobs, and security office jobs are all very important. There are positions open for a trust worthy and dependable person to fill. Companies need security personnel as much as they need regular employees to carry out their business. These jobs are open and available for the right person. The myths about these positions are just that, myths. If the job sounds interesting to you then take a look at what is open and see where you can begin the next chapter in your career.
