The

University Police Office

invites applications for a

Parking Enforcement Officer

to join their team. The person assigned to this position will use interpretation, discretion and judgement to provide effective enforcement of UM parking and state regulations. Under indirect supervision will perform duties related to parking enforcement, evaluation of facilities for repairs, and compliance with state and local regulations. Position requires considerable communication and conflict management skills to represent the department in a professional manner. Ability to deal with hostile violators calmly and professionally.

Position requires the use and maintenance of several types parking technology equipment:

License plate reader technology

T2 parking software on a mobile tablet

printing equipment

Parking meter machines

immobilization devices

Physical Demands of the position requires foot and vehicle patrol in a variety of extreme weather conditions. Must be able to lift approximately 30 pounds to load and unload parking signage and barricades. Additionally, the position requires the ability to assist stranded motorists by jumping vehicles or to push vehicle to a safe position out of traffic flow.

This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of departmental, University, State and Federal regulations as they relate to enforcement and signage, as well as, university parking facilities. It also requires the completion of MLEA Accident Investigation School.

Required Skills

Valid Driver's License

Good Communication and conflict resolution skill

Basic Knowledge computer/tablet use

Good driving record

Ability to work in the outdoors throughout all Montana's seasonal weather

Minimum Required Experience

High School diploma and one (1) year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of T2 Parking Software

Previous work in parking enforcement

Experience with License plate reader equipment

Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, 12 months/year, Position requires an alternative work schedule. Position is anticipated to start at 0.75 FTE from September 2021 to May 2022 and increase after to 1.0 FTE. Please contact the department directly with questions on schedule.
