Do you have experience in and enjoy providing excellent customer service in a diverse environment, are vigilant, proactive and an excellent communicator, if so please read on. We have a vacancy for a full time Security Officer within Estates and Facilities. The team provides a dedicated presence around the bustling, open campus to ensure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors. The team are on hand to offer advice and guidance and are often the first point of contact for students and visitors. Specific duties include, positive interaction with a diverse range of customers, patrolling, CCTV surveillance, alarm monitoring along with the use of both University and Police radios. You will need to be a good communicator with excellent prioritisation skills, strong attention to detail who is flexible, pragmatic and proactive. You will possess the ability to accurately record information and write clear and concise reports. Although you will be part of a team, as an individual, you will need to be able to use your initiative, make quick decisions, sometimes in difficult situations, and accept the risk associated with this type of work. It is essential that you have good IT skills, sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, and a general aptitude for working with technical equipment to be able to adapt to using new software and systems. You will have a sound awareness of health and safety matters and due to the nature of the work; you must be in good health and physically fit, as appointment will be subject to satisfactory medical screening. Experience of working in a law enforcement, security, or military background is useful, but not essential as a new member of the security team you will receive excellent training opportunities to equip yourself with the skills you need for both the role and personal development. You will be required to hold or gain First Aid at Work Certificate, complete SIA training or hold a current Door Supervisors licence. In addition be capable of passing Non-Police Personnel Vetting, all are essential requirements of the role. A current full driving licence (manual transmission) is also essential. A Uniform and PPE will be provided. The post will involve working shifts on an annualised hour’s basis, covering 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is permanent. There will also be a requirement to provide cover for unplanned absence or that of meeting the business need. A 14% shift allowance is paid on contracted hours based on a average of 37hours per week.
